Objective
Use the sole of the foot to drag the ball back and escape pressure.
Instructions
- 1
Dribble toward a cone defender.
- 2
Place the sole of your foot on top of the ball and drag it straight back.
- 3
Turn and accelerate in the opposite direction.
- 4
Complete 10 reps alternating feet.
Coaching Points
- ✓ Keep your weight on the standing leg so the dragging foot is free.
- ✓ The drag must be smooth — a jabbing motion loses the ball.
- ✓ Look up immediately after the drag to pick your next move.
Age Notes
U8 Practise standing still first — just drag the ball back and forward to feel the sole contact.
Variations
- → Drag back then push to the side instead of going straight back.
- → Add a second cone to dribble to after the drag.
